Medical rehabilitation unit for patients with central nervous system (CNS) dysfunctions has accumulated vast experience of an integrated approach to the rehabilitation of patients in the early and late period of the acute cerebrovascular accident (ischemic, hemorrhagic stroke), the early and long-term period of craniocerebral injury, spinal cord injury, brain and spinal cord pathology after neurosurgical interventions. The unit takes an individualized approach to the development of a medical rehabilitation programme for every patient. During the entire period of inpatient treatment, a multidisciplinary approach is applied to the patient, with counselling, examination and adjustment of the rehabilitation programme.

The multidisciplinary team consists of the following specialists: physical and rehabilitative medicine doctor (who heads the multidisciplinary team), neurologist, speech therapist, neuropsychologist, medical psychologist, occupational therapist (a specialist in the patient's everyday adaptation), and instructor of therapeutic gymnastics. Considering the patient's comorbidity (pathologies of other organs and systems), the multidisciplinary team may include related specialists (cardiologist, general practitioner, urologist, ophthalmologist, psychotherapist, orthopaedic traumatologist) to provide further quality care to the patient, eliminating triggering factors for other chronic illnesses.

The main function of the unit is to provide specialized care, including high-tech care, at the second stage of medical rehabilitation. Patients with various degrees of severity from all regions of our the country receive treatment, according to the rehabilitation routing scale of the degree of impairment: 3 points (day patient beds, moderate impairments) - 4-5 points (24-hour inpatient facility ( expressed, severely expressed impairments).

High-tech care (3 on the Rankin scale) includes the following unique, resource-intensive methods:
  1. rehabilitation training with biofeedback (BFB) using several modalities for hand, walking, postural and speech disorders;
  2. restorative treatment using a combination of activities in combination with virtual reality for hand and walking disorders;
  3. rehabilitation treatment with application of complex of measures in combination with navigational rhythmic transcranial magnetic stimulation for hand, walking, postural and speech disorders.

The main objective for the unit's specialists is to reintegrate patients into their usual environment as quickly as possible (work, domestic activity, social life (independent visits to the cinema, theatre, shops, etc.), transition of patients to the 3rd stage of rehabilitation (spa treatment, follow-up and rehabilitation in outpatient settings).

Equipment

The unit meets the latest requirements and is adapted to accommodate patients with limited mobility. The department is equipped with 1, 2 and 3,4 bed comfortable rooms. The location of specialist rooms, such as speech therapy, psychologists, neuropsychologists, massage and robotic therapy rooms, group exercise therapy rooms, art therapy and occupational therapy rooms, on the same floor, allows for an optimal rehabilitation programme to be put in place.

The specialists of the unit take part in research work, thematic conferences and master classes, regularly attend advanced training courses, have experience of working in specialized institutions and take part in educational programmes (training of personnel from various regions of the country).
